A little about how I see beauty, and the person behind prettYU.
Chinese by heritage and raised in Singapore, I grew up between two cultures that shaped not only who I am, but also the way I understand beauty.
I’ve never believed that beauty should fit within a fixed definition. To me, beauty is less about being judged, and more about being truly seen. The experiences you carry, the way you feel, your softness, your strength, and even the little contradictions that make you who you are — all of these are part of your beauty.
That is also how I see makeup. Not as a way to turn you into someone else, but as a way to discover another side of yourself with a little more curiosity and a little less judgement. Sometimes softer, sometimes bolder, sometimes brighter — or simply a version of you that feels more understood.
When someone sits in my chair, I hope she leaves with more than a beautiful look. I hope she leaves feeling seen, comfortable in herself, and a little more connected to the person she already is.

My relationship with makeup started before I ever imagined it becoming my career. During my first full-time role with Chanel Beauty, I discovered how much I loved using makeup to explore different sides of myself. It gave me a sense of possibility — a way to express how I felt, or simply see myself differently.
Life eventually took me in another direction. I went on to further my studies and later settled into a more conventional 9-to-5 career. But makeup never really left me. I became the friend people naturally came to whenever they needed their makeup done, and after years of keeping this part of myself on the side, I began to realise that my job did not have to define who I was.
That thought brought me back to makeup properly. I trained with Autelier Makeup in Singapore and joined the Autelier Pro Class, where I developed my understanding of bridal makeup and the soft, polished glamour loved by many Singapore brides.
Still, I wanted a stronger technical foundation. Although I had been doing makeup on and off for years, much of what I knew came from instinct — I could sense when something looked right, but I wanted to understand why. So I returned to China and started again from the fundamentals at 彩棠 Timage Cosmetic, before progressing to the advanced masterclass. Learning alongside experienced makeup artists and beauty educators, and from teachers with top celebrity experience, gave me the theory, discipline and technical understanding to support the eye I had developed over the years.
Now I’m back in Singapore — the place that raised me — bringing together everything I have learnt from both sides of my journey. My work today is a meeting of the softness and wearability I love in Singapore bridal beauty, with the detail, technique and creative perspective I developed in China.

The name prettYU is a quiet tribute to my mum, Yu. She is one of the strongest and most independent women I know. From her, I learnt that a woman’s worth and energy begin within herself — and that beauty should never be defined for her by someone else. She has always taught me that every woman should have something she truly loves and chooses to hold on to. What I admire most is the way she carries hope with her — even through difficult seasons, she never lets hardship take away her belief that life can still open into something gentler and brighter. Her resilience has been one of the strongest forms of support in my life, while also teaching me that strength and softness can exist together.
That is the value I wanted this brand to carry: strength without hardness, beauty without rules, and the confidence to choose who you want to be.
Jade has long been treasured for its clarity, natural beauty and quiet strength. It becomes more meaningful with time — precious not because it is flawless, but because of its character, depth and enduring glow.
玉见 is my hope that every person who comes to prettYU gets to meet the version of herself that is already precious, luminous and entirely her own. prettYU is also a small play on “pretty you” and Yu — a reminder that beauty is not about becoming someone else. I hope you always know you can simply be the prettYU.
